RGB or Single-Color Neon: What to Offer and How to Charge

ยท 2 min read

Six LED neon signs at night, including a purple and blue Cocktails Bar sign and a multicolor Let's Party sign.

Short answer: most signs look best in one color, or one color per word. Offer RGB, which changes color with a remote or an app, for bars, events and home signs where changing the mood is part of the appeal. Charge RGB as its own rate per meter of tube.

One color for the whole sign

  • Fits: logos, "OPEN" signs, slogans and name signs.
  • Why: it reads cleanly, it matches a brand color and it is the simplest to build.
  • Tip: warm white and cool white are popular for cafes, restaurants and weddings because they look like classic lighting rather than a party.

A color for each word or shape

  • Fits: signs with two parts, such as "Cocktails" and "Bar", or a word and a symbol like a star or a heart.
  • Why: it makes signs with several parts easier to read, and adds interest without the cost of RGB.
  • Cost: a few more joins and some more planning, but fixed colors cost the same per meter of tube.

RGB

The tube holds red, green and blue LEDs and mixes them, with a controller to pick colors and effects.

  • Fits: bars, clubs, game rooms, bedrooms, events and pop-ups.
  • Why: one sign can match a theme, a season or the mood.
  • Watch out: mixed colors are rarely as rich as dedicated colored tube, and the controller and wiring add to the cost and the things that can break.
  • Ask about: remote or app control, and whether it needs to sync with music.

Price RGB by the meter

RGB tube costs more per meter, and a longer sign uses more of it. So price it as an extra rate per meter of tube, on top of your normal neon rate, rather than as a flat fee. Add the controller as its own item if you charge for it separately.

That way a small RGB name sign stays affordable, and a big RGB bar sign covers its cost.

Let customers see the colors

In Sign Designer customers choose one tube color for the whole sign, a color for each word or shape, or RGB, from 13 tube colors including warm white, cool white, hot pink, ice blue and lavender. They see it glow at night, and the estimate adds your RGB rate per meter as soon as they switch it on. For the rest of the price, see how to price LED neon signs.
